The Pods Are Coming to Britain!
09/12/04
The pod hotel is an inevitable topic of conversation for first time visitors to Tokyo's crazy-cramped downtown. How can you possibly sleep in such a small space? Don't you feel a little like a honey bee in some vast Asian hive, waiting for commands from some overseeing queen? Probably not. And there are definite advantages to the setup, namely affordable hotel rooms in a city where monthly rent can be as high as ¥2,500,000 (over $22,000.00 US!). These advantages are what Simon Woodroffe, the man behind the new concept YOtel want to bring to the western world. The Scottsman has a writeup of the project which is set to open in London in the next few years. A model of the hotel concept will be on view at 100% Design exhibition in Earls Court later this month.
